The book I decided to read was Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald's. I decided to read this book because I felt that it aligned strongly with my business idea of opening up a fast and healthy food restaurant. Ray Kroc is a true inspirations of what he has overcame. What I admire and what surprised me most was the fact that he started McDonalds at the age of fifty years old. Most people that age would never even think to start something on such a mass scale at the age and he did. It just goes to show how anything is possible if you really put your mind to it. What I least admired was the fact that he did not have a formal education and did not finish high school because I believe that is very important in a persons life. Education is something no one can take away from you. What was also extremely admiring was the fact that he was working multiple jobs at once which is extremely difficult. On top of all that he had kids extremely young and was enlisted in the military with all the things he was still able to be extremely successful in life. One thing that I found confusing was how he started selling paper cups and ended with food being two completely different industries. Competencies he exhibited were multi-tasking and extreme and utter determination and focus. I believe Ray Kroc's opinion of hard work would be that anything is possible no matter your circumstances it all of matter of effort and how much you want to make something happen. If I could ask him anything it would be how he would go about starting a business in today's society, and why he chose to enlist in WWII. All in all he is a huge inspiration and I hope one day I can follow his foot steps.
Hey David,
ReplyDeleteI think it was a really good idea for you to read Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald's because of how closely it relates to your business idea. I also read this book and it gives some insight as to what the struggles were of opening a restaurant. I was also confused as to how exactly Kroc came into the restaurant business from selling products like paper cups but from what I remember it was because he started selling milkshake machines when he stumbled upon the McDonald's restaurant.
