8A – Solving The Problem

8A - Solving the Problem

1. My selected opportunity is how there is no healthy fast food options that are open late at night. So my idea would be to open a small restaurant that provides fast, healthy and affordable meals. I thought of the idea by combining my passion for nutrition and working out with a need my friends and I always had. My friends would always go out to midtown and once the night was over we would always be hungry but there would be no healthy options of fast food to eat. The healthiest of fast foods would be Chick-Fil-A and Chipotle but both of these locations close by 10/11pm. Therefore, why not be only place in Gainesville that sells quick, healthy and affordable fast food.

2. What I plan to sell is food as well as smoothies/protein shakes. As for food I would offer bowls and sandwiches. It would be similar to Chipotle in the sense that you pick and just what ingredients you want in your bowl or sandwich, but the difference would be it would not be Mexican style cooking it would be Cuban instead. Moreover, the food I will be offering will not have all the sodium Chipotle has. I will offer white rice, brown rice, or quinoa as your base; for protein I will offer lean ground turkey, chicken, and lean ground beef; for fiber I will offer black beans, or red beans; Veggies; cheese; lettuce, spinach, Pico de Gayo. I will also sell fresh orange juice and protein shakes.

  1. Hey David,
I really enjoyed reading about your opportunity and its solution. I really like your opportunity because it is very similar to mine. There is not a great variety of food choices around campus. Like you said, the choices we do have are not healthy. Therefore, I think you have a great idea. I think I can speak for others when I say we are looking for healthier options. We cannot live off chick-fil-A and Panda Express. I like your solution as well. I think it is smart for it to be quick and efficient like Chipotle, and I think that it is even better that it is healthy.

  2. Hey David,
I experienced this same situation last night after work. I typically take closing shifts to make more money but I'm always extremely tired after getting out and don't feel like waiting almost an hour to cook something. I checked every restaurant around me and they were all closed so I reluctantly went to good ole Mccy D's. I think having a restaurant that serves healthy food late at night would be a good idea, especially since students in a college town are awake really late at night.

  3. Great idea with the smoothies/healthy food option. I think this would gain a lot of traction, especially with more and more young people becoming health conscious. I think a quick delivery service on a scooter would also be a great idea. I think a healthy option that you wouldn't have to interrupt a late-night study session would go a long way. I think location would definitely be important.
